Every tile sits in a module the size of the tile plus one grout joint. Lay those modules across the room from one corner and the last one in each row and column almost never lands exactly on the wall — it gets cut to fit. This tool places the whole grid, clips the tiles that run past the walls, and draws the result so you can see the cut tiles before you commit.

Along a run, the number of full tiles is the whole modules that fit; whatever is left over becomes a cut course. A running-bond pattern shifts every other row by half a module, which turns the two end tiles of each offset row into cuts — the classic brick-lay edge. The diagram redraws the moment you change the room, tile size, joint, or pattern, and the full-versus-cut counts come straight from the tiles it drew, so the picture and the numbers always agree.

Use it to compare patterns and to decide where to start. A tiny sliver against the most visible wall looks bad; nudging the layout so both edges get a half tile usually reads better. Pair this with the tile calculator for the order quantity and the grout-volume calculator for the joints.

It depends on how the tile size divides into the room. In the 8 × 10 ft example with 12" tile, 63 of the 80 tiles are full and 17 are cut edge pieces. Bigger tile in a small room means a higher share of cuts.
