Estimated resurfacing cost

rough planning estimate

Formula
cost = 992 ft² × $5/ft² + $1,500 = $6,460
Interior area = floor + walls. Resurfacing is priced on the wetted surface, not the water volume. Drain, chip-out, and tile work add cost — get local bids.
Estimates for planning only — verify sizes and equipment before buying. For chemicals, always follow the product label, add chemicals to water (never the reverse), and test with a kit.

Resurfacing is priced on the **interior surface** you refinish — the floor plus the walls — not the water volume. The calculator computes that wetted area from your pool's length, width, and average depth: the floor is roughly the plan area, and the walls are the perimeter times the average depth. It then multiplies by a per-square-foot finish rate and adds your extras.

The starting finish rates are typical figures: plaster or marcite around $5 per square foot, quartz aggregate around $6.50, pebble around $10, and full tile far higher. A 32 × 16 ft pool averaging 5 ft deep has about 992 square feet of interior surface, so a replaster lands near $5,000 in material before drain-and-fill, chip-out, and tile-band work.

Use it to compare finishes and sanity-check a quote. Actual jobs add labor for draining, chipping out the old surface, acid washing, and refilling, plus any tile or coping repair — all entered as extras. Finishes and regional labor vary widely, so confirm with local bids.

Worked example
Size 32 ft × 16 ft · average depth 5 ft · plaster at $5/ft² · extras $1,500
interior = floor 512 ft² + walls (96 ft perimeter × 5 ft) = 992 ft²
total = 992 × 5 + 1,500 = $6,460

It depends on interior area and finish. A 992 ft² interior runs roughly $5,000 for plaster, $6,500 for quartz, or $10,000 for pebble in material, before labor and extras. Tile is far more. Get local bids for the full job.
