Acreage Calculator: Acres, Hectares & Square Feet

An acre is a fixed amount of land area — 43,560 square feet, the size once tied to a day's plowing. To find the acreage of a rectangular parcel you measure its length and width in feet, multiply them for the total square footage, then divide by 43,560. A lot that is 200 ft by 200 ft is 40,000 square feet, which is about 0.92 of an acre. The calculator keeps the exact area and just relabels it in the unit you want.

Land is described in acres across most of the United States, but survey plats and international listings often use hectares, so the calculator shows both. A hectare is 10,000 square meters — roughly 2.47 acres — and it comes straight from the metric area of the same parcel. Flip the toggle to metric to enter the sides in meters and read the result as hectares first, with acres kept beside it. For odd-shaped parcels, break the land into rectangles, total each piece, and add them before converting.
